Breaking Bad is a slow-burn crime drama about a chemistry teacher named Walter White. Walter is struggling to earn money since his salary doesn’t pay off, it doesn’t help that his wife is about to give birth and his son has cerebral palsy. Walter doesn’t think his financial situation can get any worse, but then they tell him that he has terminal cancer. While at a party, Walter’s brother-in-law (Hank Schrader) decides to take him on a drug bust. As he watches, Walter notices his former student Jesse Pinkman running out of the meth lab. Walter then gets the idea to blackmail Jesse into helping him cook meth to save money for his family to pay for his cancer treatment.
Viewers generally say they enjoy the show, but why do they like it so much? Sebastian Chavez, a senior at Defiance High School, said, «I like the concept of an ordinary guy who goes from having an ordinary life to becoming a master of crime.» Biology 2 teacher Mr. Trudel also commented, «Based on the action, character development, entertainment value and overall story, I would rate the show 9.5 out of 10.»
Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are done with the ‘Breaking Bad’ universe for now
Better Call Saul is the prequel series to Breaking Bad that tells the origin story of Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), who was formerly Jimmy McGill. The spinoff also touches on Saul’s life after Breaking Bad as he assumes a new identity, Gene Takavic.
As well received as Better Call Saul has been, showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould have no plans to make another show within the Breaking Bad universe. “You can’t keep putting all your money on red 21,” Gilligan said during a virtual TCA panel (via Deadline).
